WP Pure Tungsten Electrode (Green Tip)
The original TIG electrode and still the right answer for AC welding of aluminium and magnesium alloys. Pure tungsten balls cleanly under AC, spreads the arc evenly across the ball, and is the lowest-cost way to stock an AC line.
What it is not: a DC electrode. On DCEN the ball migrates and the arc wanders — if your shop runs DC on steel, look at WL15/WL20 or WC20 instead.

Tip colour per ISO 6848.

Where WP earns its place
AC aluminium & magnesium
The balled tip gives the wide, cleaning arc that AC aluminium work needs. Standard choice for fabrication shops welding 5xxx/6xxx alloys.
Counter stock for AC machines
Distributors serving repair and light-fab markets keep WP green next to the argon regulators — cheap, universally understood, zero compliance questions.
Where it loses
DC welding of any kind, and AC at high duty where a zirconiated WZ8 holds its ball better under load.
