Product range
Tungsten electrode range, by ISO 6848 designation
Seven designations, one page each. Oxide additions below are the ISO 6848:2015 identification ranges; your quotation repeats the exact designation, size and packing so nothing is left to interpretation.
| Type | Tip colour | Oxide addition | Family | Current | Typical work |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| WP | Green | — | Pure tungsten, W ≥ 99.50% | AC | Aluminium, magnesium |
| WT20 | Red | 1.70–2.20% ThO2 | Thoriated | DC | Steel, stainless, nickel, copper |
| WC20 | Grey | 1.80–2.20% CeO2 | Ceriated | DC / AC low-mid | Thin sheet, low-current and orbital TIG |
| WL15 | Gold | 1.40–1.60% La2O3 | Lanthanated | DC / AC | General purpose, steel and alloys |
| WL20 | Dark blue | 1.80–2.20% La2O3 | Lanthanated | DC / AC | General purpose, higher current than WL15 |
| WZ8 | White | 0.70–0.90% ZrO2 | Zirconiated | AC | Aluminium at higher current, stable balled tip |
| WY20 | Per batch marking | approx. 2% Y2O3 | Yttriated | DC | Precision, high-current critical joints |
WP — pure tungsten
Green tip. The AC specialist for aluminium and magnesium; balls cleanly, unsuited to DC.
Specification →WT20 — thoriated
Red tip, 2% ThO2. The DC workhorse with the easiest arc starts — and the handling rules that come with thorium.
Specification →WC20 — ceriated
Grey tip, 2% CeO2. Lowest-voltage arc starts, ideal for thin sheet, low current and orbital TIG. Non-radioactive.
Specification →WL15 / WL20 — lanthanated
Gold and dark blue tips. The versatile DC/AC all-rounders and the standard substitution route away from WT20.
Specification →WZ8 — zirconiated
White tip, ~0.8% ZrO2. Holds a stable balled tip on AC at higher current; resists tungsten spatter into the weld.
Specification →WY20 — yttriated
Approx. 2% Y2O3. For precision and high-current critical DC work; made to order, tip marking confirmed per batch.
Specification →Tip colour reference photos on each page come from our own packing room; the ten-colour spectrum shot is a colour-code reference, not a stock claim for every designation.
How to read a designation
The letters
W = tungsten. The second letter is the oxide: P pure, T thorium, C cerium, L lanthanum, Z zirconium, Y yttrium.
The number
Roughly the oxide content in tenths of a percent: WC20 ≈ 2.0% CeO2, WL15 ≈ 1.5% La2O3, WZ8 ≈ 0.8% ZrO2. ISO 6848 gives the accepted range for each.
The colour
One band at the non-working end (or the tip, as packed ground). Same code, same colour, whoever made it — that is the point of the standard.
The paperwork
AWS A5.12 classes (EWP, EWTh-2, EWCe-2, EWLa-1.5, EWLa-2, EWZr-1…) map onto the ISO codes; we confirm the exact class for your type on the shipping documents.
Real stock, photographed as shipped
No studio renders. These are the tube boxes, labels and cartons that leave our Baoji packing room — the same ones your incoming inspection will open.
